A progressive cavity pump is a type of positive displacement pump transfering fluid by means of the progress, through the pump, of a sequence of small, fixed shape, discrete cavities, as its rotor is turned. Progressive cavity pumps are ideal for applications where the liquid is sheer sensitive because of lower internal velocity, a good example is pumping oil and water mixtures to separation devices whereby the same device works much better when the oil droplets are larger.
